Jean Rittenberg was born in Boulder City, Nevada. At an early age she was surrounded by artists, which greatly influenced her, including her very talented mother, Donna Friedmann. The family moved to California when she was young.
Some form of art was always included in her high school and college studies, including original ceramics and three-dimensional design.
Returning to Nevada, she was instructed further by Warren Frank, Professional Artist and Professor. Jean entered her work at the popular "Art in the Park", in Boulder City, Nevada where she won acclaim and sold her work. (One piece, traveling to its new home in Jolly ole England, was a true thrill for her).Spending five short years in the Bay Area, selling several of her pieces, she now resides in the Santa Maria Valley. Upon entering both the Santa Barbara County Fair and Mid State Fair in Paso Robles she has gone on to win several awards including "Best of best" at the Santa Barbara County Fair. Her work was also juried into the California State Fair in Sacramento.
Jean has also had the opportunity to teach after school art programs both at Walnut Acres in Walnut Creek, and at Ralph Dunlap in Santa Maria.
Jean is proficient in several media such as watercolor, acrylic, ceramics, pastels, and oils. Her favorite subject matter, drawing on her small but evident Mohawk heritage, is renditions of Native American children.
