Handcrafted, Wheel-Thrown Stoneware Derived from the "Dance of Life"...
Sue has been a Santa Maria resident for over 25 years. She has always worked with her hands, as a retired hairdresser, always doing some kind of craft. Sue found pottery at Hancock College, taking a careers class to see what she wanted to do after retiring from hairdressing. Just happened to walk into a pottery class and saw an instructor throwing on the wheel. She was mesmerized.

Sue has been working with clay for 6 or so years. She has been working with high fire stoneware clay and colorful glazes to create functional pottery. Sue finds inspiration in the beauty of the natural world that surrounds her studio and park-like back yard. Texturing clay with plants and leaves is a fun technique. Her favorite work usually involves textured lids. One instructor calls them the “Dance of Life” where you toss and stretch the clay to give them dimension.

Sue’s pottery has continued to evolve and expand into unique pieces of art. Each handcrafted piece of stoneware is wheel-thrown. All pieces are glazed with lead-free glaze making them food safe, oven, microwave, and dishwasher safe too.

A member of the Los Padres Artist Guild - Membership Chairman. Currently showing in the Broadway Gallery, Santa Maria, Two Hands Gallery, Pismo Beach, and Fiona Bleu Gallery, Morro Bay.
