Rich has spent most of his life studying pictures. He has been a radiologist, Diplomate of the American Board of Radiology, since 1976. He graduated from Rutgers University and went to medical school in Philadelphia. Rich spent 8 years in the Army Training in Radiology at Walter Reed AMC. He became Chief of Radiology at the Fort Ord Army Hospital and a LTC before resigning his commission in 1979. He became Chief Radiologist at Arroyo Grande Community Hospital in 1979 and retired in 2000.

Rich has had a lifelong passion for glass art and has decided to develop the other side of his brain making Art Glass rather than buying it. He has taken courses in drawing, design, painting, torch working, & fusing. Rich has taken many glassblowing, fusing, casting, and metalsmithing classes with George Jercich and Crissa Hewitt, at Cal Poly. He taught Beginning Glass Fusing at Cal Poly in summer 2004. Rich teaches a course "Introduction to Glass Fusing" at Cal Poly in the summer. He & Kersti built a studio in Arroyo Grande and started the business Canyon Art of Arroyo Grande.

Rich enjoys working with glass and metal, making objects that other people can enjoy. The media are very demanding and technical, but the results are rewarding. He is exploring the color palate, techniques, designs and materials that can be used with glass and metal. He will continue studying with the goal of improving his ability to express himself in Art Glass and metal.
