was born and raised in Henderson, Ky, home of famous artist John James Audubon.
During her school years she always wanted to be an artist, however the weekly
art teacher taught that you could only be an artist if you were born with talent.
Not just a bit of talent, but real talent like John James Audubon. Pam feels that
talent of course is part of the equation, but feels desire is just as important.
Of course theres education, discipline, vision, and even talent, etc. but
without desire your art work will soon fall by the side while you let other things
in life get in the way of producing art. "10 years ago had I had
a vision of what I would be doing professionally in the future I would have guessed
real estate agent, perhaps paid staff for the American Red Cross, travel agent,
never in my wildest dreams did I think I would be an artist," said Pam. However
armed with a desire since childhood to learn to paint and a very supportive husband,
she took classes from Hancock College which provided the opportunity to learn
technique etc. Combine education with desire and there was no looking back, the
artist bug had bitten. Thanks to being able to study under Marti Fast
she has learned that art is about so much more than the tools used to produce
a painting or drawing. She believes we all have a canvas in our world,
be it gardening, cooking, sailing, quilting...we each have a personal canvas.
She wants the viewer to remember it is not just about he destination, but also
the journey along the way. It is her hope that those that view her work will start
thinking about enjoying the journey of the art they are producing on the canvas
of their world. She wants the viewer to observe the world through their
artist eyes and ask themselves what they really see along the journey. It is not
just the destination alone that inspires a finished canvas, but the journey along
the way as well. Pam is also a decorative artist as and teaches
classes both privately and commercially. Pam shows her work with the
Culture Corner Gallery, Tri-counties Blood Bank Gallery, Marian Cancer Treatment
Center Gallery and the Los Olivos Gallery. She is a member of the Santa Ynez Valley
Art Guild and the Los Padres Art Guild, as well as The Society of Decorative Painters. | | | [contact] | | | News

Ornament by Local Artist
Displayed at the Library of Congress
Pam Ferris, resident of Orcutt, CA, and owner of Pamela
Ferris Artworks is a local artist who was given the opportunity to design and
hand paint an ornament that will be displayed on the Christmas tree this year
at the Library of Congress in Washington, DC. The Library of Congress is the largest
library in the world, and houses the United States Copyright Office. With
the theme Creativity Across America, each artist designed and painted a wooden
book as an ornament representing their state. The ornaments measure about 4x7,
and are completely American-made. Artists from all 50 states participated in the
project, creating a wonderful new collection of ornaments to grace the tree. State
symbols, state songs, and state birds were featured, along with natural and historical
features of the states. All
participating artists are invited to attend a ceremony at the Library of Congress
on December 14th, 2005. The tree will be on display from late November through
the first week of January, and is open to the public. In addition to Decorative
Painting, the artist offers for sale watercolor, acrylic and oil paintings. For
